Though the Winter Olympics are in full swing Lynchburg“cloud-chasers” had another competition in mind when gathered at Dapper Dan’s Vapor Things for a night of competitive vaping.

Saturday night’s event was Dapper Dan’s first sanctioned cloud competition — a tournament thatrelied on the ever popular electronic cigarette.

The night’s contest was overseen by the Cloud Competition Sports League, an organization devoted to standardizing the rules of competitive vaping.

“We appeal to the cloud-chaser,” said CCSL Vice President Hoyt Adickes. “Really, all we do is come into the shop and we make sure all the judges are unbiased, all the rules are stuck to and everything runs just like a professional sport.”

Adickes, who is from Virginia Beach, said vaping enthusiasts are more than willing to drive from hundreds of miles away to take part in the sport.

Over 70 people attended the tournament, a showing Dapper Dan’s owner Dan Davis said is common for vaping competitions.
