Vaping a growing issue for Macomb County schools; L'Anse Creuse to host forums – The Macomb Daily

It may smell like bubblegum. It may look like a USB flash drive. But disguised vape products could contain carcinogens or other harmful substances, according to health authorities.

On Oct. 16 during a regular meeting, the L’Anse Creuse Board of Education discussed the dangers of vaping. Conversations about the concerning trend began prior to the board meeting at a Parent Advisory Committee meeting. Other Macomb County districts have been grappling with the issue recently as well.

L’Anse Creuse Superintendent Erik Edoff gave a presentation before the committee on the subject of vaping that explained statistics on vaping and reasons for concern about the upswing in popularity.

“There were actually two separate ships in the ocean at the exact same time. There were some changes in our school student code of conduct in regards to vaping and while that was happening and the administration was seeing the issue, our students were also seeing it,” Allen said.


Allen described vaping as the use of an electronic e-cigarette type of vapor device used for nicotine and other substances.
